ROCK CLIMBING (FULL-DAY TOUR)
Free Riding is just like the name implies, riding pretty much anything the area has to offer. Technical skill and balance are a prerequisite for this type of riding as we will be practicing narrow structure riding techniques, jumps, drops, steeps, hill climbing and cross-country riding. Shocks are not essential for this type of riding but it sure softens the impact for us mere mortals. The Freeride is an intense half-day tour that covers a huge range of riding techniques as well as a large part of the Hakuba area – you must be fit and ready-to-ride.
In Nagano there are numerous climbing options. Ogawayama, on the Yamanashi-Nagano border, has hundreds of multi-pitch granite climbs, with routes ranging from 5 to 12.5. Also scattered through Nagano many bolted sport climbing sections are a twenty-minute walk from the parking lot. Safety is our number one priority so we advance to your comfort level and set up climbing routes that will test you, but are heaps of fun to climb. As we will be outside all day, please bring plenty of water and pack the appropriate clothing for the day.
Hakuba is truly a mountaineer’s paradise. Steep peaks rise up to over 2500m and with linked ridges climbers can access many of the local summits with relative ease. Some of the more popular climbing routes are the famous Three Peaks of Hakuba (Hakubasan-zan) and The Tateyama Alpine Route that spans across Nagano prefecture and Toyama prefecture.
Next to Hakuba, the famous Kashima-Yari East Ridge is a multi-day climb into alpine country. With this type of tour we use mountain huts and occasionally tents. Prerequisites for this tour are experience in mountain climbing and your own gear, however equipment rentals are available from Evergreen. Please contact us for more details.
